Boathouse Signature Walking Tote Basket - Natural Leather Trim
Betsey's Discovery Story:
Recently, I threw the Mudroom Signature tote over my shoulder as we took off to Chapin Beach on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. At low tide, Chapin Beach becomes a 1/2 mile wide, wet, sandy landscape filled with all sorts of things and treasures dropped by the waves.
You can put this tote down while you gather up your finds or pause to talk and gaze. It’s seagrass construction makes it water repellent and it’s loose weave allows for sifting and leaving of the sand behind. That day I found a few shells, really nicely colored rocks and my favorite...some unusually shaped driftwood.
As as I gather, I look across the Atlantic Ocean thinking about the craftspeople on the other side, more specifically Morocco’s north west coast of the great Atlantic Ocean. I imagine their skilled hands in this small coastal town, weaving and knotting these baskets, keeping it ingeniously airy enough to release what you don’t want and strong enough to hold what you do.
Back home, I appreciate a basket’s low cut and wide opening for many things including a drop and go basket, but more so, I love that it just reminds me of peaceful days beach combing at Chapin Beach.
After we left , my cousin Jan went back to her sweet cottage and made her new signature totes into towel organizers in her jumbled up laundry room!
