These topiaries, inspired from our recent trip to Edinburgh's Holyrood Palace Gardens, are all natural.The tea stick planter tied off with water hyacinth rope is special...it's our MUDROOM desire to bring the outside, inside!

The  Palace of HolyroodHouse, once the former home of Mary Queen Of Scots, is one of my favorite travel destinations...not  so much because of its interior room displays, but because of the surrounding walled gardens, open parkland and rolling hills.  Holyroodhouse has been an area of outdoor sporting events for over 500 years. Umm, I like to imagine Mary Queen of Scots getting a bit of relief from her chaotic reign outside.... practicing her archery and hawking skills in the walled garden.  

In the 17th century they created The Psychic Garden, as a place to teach botany, and filled it with many species of heather, native to the Scottish moorlands.

Today these spectacular miniature fields of heather,  in various rich shades of red and purple, can be seen as the inspiration behind Mudroom’s Holyrood House Topiaries and Posies. 

Mudroom’s “heather” arrangement are actually meticulously hand-made in Sri Lanka. Female artisans  boil, crush and freeze dry sorghum seeds to make each individual bundles. Next, they gather the base in French Toile Paper or sticks and tie it off with a raffia bow.  

Just as the heather species enchanted the Palace, these dried florals will bring beautiful hues of fresh color into your Mudroom... and an ode to peaceful winds blowing across the wide open Scottish moorlands.

Handcrafted  in natural wood and woven rope, the Lugano stool is useful and sturdy.  Lightweight and easy to carry around, the large size can work as an impromptu foot stool or table for your picnics or outdoor sporting event.

These lightweight stools can take a lot of the elements. The smallest works well next to the bath or outdoor shower for a bottle of scented argon oil... or your phone for your meditation podcast...or your ipad for your favorite show. All work well for an impromptu picnic table.
